THE AMAZON BASIN THE CONGO BASIN Top Forest Regions Boreal Zone Temperate Zone Tropical Zone The Forest Opportunity IUCN, WWF and Climate Advisers are working together to highlight how national plans can help to reduce deforestation and contribute to forest landscape restoration. This findings have been presented in a white paper The Forest Opportunity , which highlights conditions in 12 countries in the tropical zone. Forest Loss & Drought Southern Brazil is currently experiencing an unprecedented drought, which has been found to be linked to deforestation. It is known that forests drive localized rainfall patterns, and deforestation has the capability to alter this precipitation and contribute to drought. Deforestation & the Zika Virus Jim Robbins of Yale Environment 360 reports on new research demonstrating that risk of disease outbreaks, such as the Zika virus can be greatly increased due to forests being cut down for agriculture and roads.
